Vor Übernahme seiner heutigen Position war Gerd Weber seit Mai 2013 Leiter der Zentralen Produktionsplanung und -steuerung. Er kam 2011 zu Premium Aerotec, zunächst als Leiter der Zentralen Dienste und des Produktionsmanagements am Standort Nordenham. Im März 2003 startete er seine Laufbahn bei Airbus, zunächst im Kabinenausstattungswerk in Laupheim, ab 2006 übernahm er die Entwicklungsleitung für die Long-Range-Systemintegration in Hamburg. Im Jahr 2007 wurde er mit dem Aufbau und der Leitung des A380-Manufacturing Engineering in Toulouse betraut. Mit diesen Erfahrungen übernahm er 2010 die transnationale Leitung der A350-Industrialisierung für Rumpf und Kabine und war für den Aufbau des harmonisierten Produktionssystems der Airbus-Werke verantwortlich.
